Demons footy and netball news
17 Aug 09
It was a day more like the warm weather the finals series is played in - except Nangiloc won't be in the finals series this year after Meringur defeated Gol Gol. We played Bambill in Mildura and it was a fast paced game for the first half. The Demons were only 11 points down at the end of the first quarter, but this blew out to be a 33 point deficit by half time. The final loss by 73 points shows that we still have a long way to go to defeat the top teams. Our running game works well in patches, but we need a couple of talls in the forward line to add to our game plan.
Best players Sam Lee, Damien Sitters, Jason Finch, Cam Peters, Luke Lea, Damien Gray.
A funny story from the Back-to-Front Night - no winning ticket could be found from the major raffle with the prize being a three-way Engel car fridge donated by Kulkyne Campers. President Kelvin announced the winning ticket number numerous times, set a time limit, and then redrew the raffle. A new winner was duly announced. Later that night when emptying his pockets at home, what did President Kelvin find in his top pocket? You guessed it - the original winning ticket! Wife Bonnie was not impressed!
All Netball teams played hard games in the warm conditions, but were unable to take the points on the day.
A Grade: Werrimull 54 defeated Nangiloc 15
A shortage of available players saw many of the B graders front up for two games. Best players were Lisa Nystrom, Alyce Jones and Michelle Francis.
B Grade: Werrimull 45 defeated Nangiloc 13
Warm, windy conditions made it difficult for accurate passes for both teams. Best players were Bridie Old, Kristi Goldup and Kristy stone.
Juniors: Werrimull 13 defeated Nangiloc 12
This was the closest game of the day and it turned into a real nail-biter for the last four minutes, as the youngsters from Nangiloc were aiming for their first win since the Footy Club reformed three years ago. Best players were Aimee McPhee, Isobella Collett and Anneka Doering.
This week's game against Euston is our last home game for season 2009. It will be the last game for the McPhee Family before they move to Mackay and we lose Sharon (Bgrade netball), Melinda and Aimee, (Junior Netball), and James and Nathan (Auskick). We wish them every success on their move to Queensland and thank them for helping with their involvement with the Demons over the past three years.
