Demons Footy Notes
24 Aug 09
Well, last home game for season 2009, and Nangiloc played their best first quarter for the whole year! Jake Reed kicked 6 goals in the first quarter, and everyone played as a team. Nangiloc eventually won by 43 points over Euston. The rain came down just as the game ended; the umpires must have known it was coming as they herded the timekeepers out of the afternoon tea room a full 5 minutes before the game was scheduled to restart after half time! Best players were AJ Wisneske, Damien Sitters, Luke Stone, Jake Reed (8 goals), Jason Finch, Graeme Glare, Cam Peters, Cameron Cox and David Mike.
The Demons would like to thank the regular helpers - Goal Umpire Trish, Scoreboard Operators Wheelie and his helpers Glenn and Danny, Timekeeper Doero, Victor on the Gate, Kiosk ladies, boundary kids Ben, Sam and Tyson, and water girl Jordan, Glenn for using his blower vac on the netball court for every home game, and all the unsung volunteers that help keep the club going every week. The Netball girls would especially like to thank Russ and Turtle for sweeping the puddles off the court on Saturday - Bridie was very pleased to record her first win with Nangiloc on the court that was prepared by her husband.
A Grade: Euston 42 defeated Nangiloc 27
A shortage of players meant that B Grade had to fill the void again and the team was missing its usual defenders. Best players were Lisa Nystrom, Nikki Lambert and Alyce Jones.
B Grade: Nangiloc 24 defeated Euston 14
We won! The whole team played very well together, and Alyce the coach inspired her players. Best players were Kristi Goldup, Bridie Old and Kristy Stone.
Juniors: Euston 37 defeated Nangiloc 9
All our younger players had their chance to play a longer game against a much taller and more experienced Euston team. Best players were Melinda McPhee, Laura Collett and Tayla Allen.
The annual Miss Nangiloc was held on Saturday night with much mirth and laughter. A big thank-you to the dressers, organisers, judges and contestants. This year's winner was "Bootylicious Bianca" (aka Benny Mansell) - he/she looked "loverly" in his/her sash and crown. "Lucinda Shagwell" (aka Luke Stone) came a very close second.
Our last game for the season is out at Lake Cullulleraine against Meringur. We need to win against the Roos to salvage our pride after missing out on the finals series by percentage only. The NDFNC Presentation Day is on Saturday 5th September, starting at 3pm with the vote count, followed by BBQ tea and presentations. Ladies, a salad please.
The Millewa League Presentation Night is on Friday 11th September at the Workers - see Vanessa for tickets.
Go Dees!
