NANGILOC & DISTRICT FOOTBALL NETBALL CLUB NEWS
It was great to see our Life Member's & Sponsors at the game last Saturday and what a game they got to witness. With refreshments & nibbles a plenty under the marquee, who could have asked for a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Although the weather let us down on the day - the boys in red & blue certainly didn't. The Demons got off to a great start; probably the best 1st quarter of footy they have had, kicking the first 4 goals of the day. Meringur were unable to answer and when the siren blew Nangiloc had a 28 point lead. Thankfully, this put us in a great position as they boys were very evenly matched in the second term.
The third term got underway, but unfortunately the 36 demon legs on the ground didn't show the same enthusiasm. Meringur seemed to want the ball much more than we did. Even though we were outscored in this term we were still able to hold on to a 17 point lead going in to the last term. The last quarter of footy was certainly a nail-biter. Really, it couldn't get any closer. Both sides had the same number of scoring shots but this was favouring the Roo's as we could only manage to kick points. The crowd knew it couldn't be much longer and we would hear that elusive siren. This wasn't the sound we wanted to hear as Meringur hit the front. Our boys had played so well as a team - how could we let the blue & whites take the points. With only minutes to go, the Demons regrouped, pulled together and, yes, the ball was heading towards our forward line. A magnificent goal in the dying stages of the game by Keegan ‘Keg' Lee saw Nangiloc take back the lead. These guys deserve a big pat on the back for the way they were able to pull together and really fight for the win.
Goal kickers were: Tim Peterson 4, Sam Lee 2, Keegan Lee, Scott Shaw, Troy Francis & Luke Stone 1 each
Best players were: Damien Sitters (Phantom), David Mike (Mikey), Scott Shaw (Scooter), Luke Stone (Stoney), Josh Puckeridge (Pucka) & Keegan Lee (Keegs).
This Saturday we are up against an in-form Cardross side who will still be on a high from knocking off ladder leaders Gol Gol. Both sides will go into this game with confidence so let's hope we can replicate our game from Round 6 and add another 4 points to our tally.
The netballers had the week off last week so they should be well rested and ready to take on Cardross today on their home turf. This will be a hard game for all grades but I'm sure all teams will give it their best shot.
Good luck to all our players today.
