Primary School receives worm farm

Nangiloc Colignan Primary School now has a worm farm
The Kulkyne Way Landcare Group received a Junior Landcare grant to establish a worm farm at the Nangiloc Colignan Primary School. After months of planning, Rob Taylor from Wangarratta Wonder Worms installed the worm farm this week.
The wrom farm are not only great to reduce waste and produce wonderful fertilisers, but they are a great teaching resource.
The unit is set up outside in the sun and the covers protect the worms from heat. Water is sprayed automatically over the worms via a pump in a water drum. This pump is on a timer and the water keeps the worms cool. It also makes the worm liquid for your gardens. They lend themselves well to hot areas especially when people are away for extended periods (eg. school holidays). This unit will compost up to approx 25 kilos of waste per week (about 300-350 children's lunch scraps). Worms in these units are very forgiving, so if not enough food at any time they will slow down in their breeding to accommodate.
