Emergency events can occur at any time and take many forms including urban flooding, bushfire, power disruption and hazardous materials incidents. They can disrupt our lives, create hardship and damage our valuables. Community members can help themselves and the lives of others by being aware of basic emergency preparedness and by following the three key elements of Ready, React, Recover and by practicing forward planning.

There are many practical ways for residents to reduce the effect emergency events have on their lives. The Ready, React, Recover booklet will guide community members prior to, during and following an emergency event. However, if community members are uncertain of procedures, they should seek further advice from emergency services.

A number of storyboards have been developed by Sunraysia Mallee Ethnic Communities Council (SMECC) to assist the CALD community in emergencies. These storyboards are designed to assist our community by demonstrating events and safe practices using pictures and diagrams. See links in related information.
