Families in Nangiloc and surrounding areas have access to important health care for babies and children close to home. Mildura Rural City Council operates the Maternal and Child Health Services which is staffed by qualified, registered general nurses and midwives with special training in Maternal and Child Health.
The service is free and is available to all families with children from birth to school age. Support provided by the service includes assessment at the baby's home following discharge from hospital and follow-up centre based visits which cover health assessments and monitor growth and development of the baby through to 6 years of age, as well as providing
- Assistance and advice for mother's health and wellbeing
- Checks and advice on the development of children
- Advice, information and education to parents and the general community about child health, development and sound parenting
- Early Identification and referral for health and developmental concerns
The nurse can also provide information and guidance in relation to:
- adjusting to Parenthood
- breast feeding
- nutrition
- hygiene
- immunisation
- parenting
- day to day care for your baby
- your child's behaviour, need for play and protection from injury
- local services such as child care, play groups, support groups, neighbourhood houses and services for children with special needs
- family planning advice
- balancing family and work
