Reading Discovery Volunteer Program

April 2010 - Exciting news - we have received a $1650 grant from the Best Start Partnership to help us with equipment to get this program off the ground.

Would you like to help a child discover the delight of reading? Do want to help a child discover the fun of learning through play? Would you like to help parents discover the joy of reading and interacting with their young children?

Then come and discover the benefits of volunteering with the Reading Discovery program.

We are seeking volunteers to support parents with young children (0-5 years) through the Reading Discovery program across the Sunraysia region including the Nangiloc/Colignan area.

Volunteers are currently needed in either of the following models:

Home Visits:

Approx. one hour weekly visits to a family's home. Volunteers help parents:

- support their children's learning through reading books, nursery rhymes, singing and story-play (pretend play).

- to become involved in their child's learning as well as gain new skills in choosing appropriate books, read-aloud techniques and the importance of play.

This is similar to the home visits, however is delivered through a supported play group environment.

Comprehensive training and ongoing support will be provided to all volunteers. Must have own transport and be willing to have Working with Children and Police Checks.
